"The David Labkovski Project advances knowledge of the Holocaust through the art of David Labkovski utilizing his history, paintings and sketches, the project emphasizes survival, tolerance, justice, and the importance of bearing witness to history” (http://www.davidlabkovskiproject.org/). I was approached by the director of education and curation of the David Labkovski project to create a virtual reality experiences where the user can enter paintings and explore the rich and diverse culture of the “World That Was.” The user immediately enters into one of David’s paintings and can then interact with objects and people within the painting. After the user interacts with a few characters in the painting, they collect items that allow them to proceed to the next painting. This is also a history project as it will integrate the horrors of the Holocaust and the tragic life which David experienced, through his art. The end product of this project will be a portable virtual reality museum instillation that will be shown all over the world, including: Vilnius, Lithuania, Cal Lutheran University and The Museum of Tolerance in California.
